BUILDING CAPACITY

Towards Self-Sufficiency and Collective Resilience

WHAT DOES “BUILDING CAPACITY” MEAN TO US?

When figuring out the theme for this year, we were joking that every Philly event uses the branding of a rowhome. But that’s because it’s iconic; it represents the small but mighty ecosystems that thrive within Philadelphia, how each pocket of gay bar regulars or the fibers scene or moms community group offers vistas into future realities of sustainability and care.

To build capacity is to build trust in our own discernment, our skill sets, our connections with one another, so that we can adapt in a changing and grieving world. If I fill my cup, I am more able to fill yours. If I learn how to sustain myself, my capacity to let more people in grows. We hope that this programming is nourishing and empowering, a rowhome backyard from which many flowers can grow.
